Agilent Single Quad 5975 GCMS Quadrupole Cleaning Video. This video will provide an overview of cleaning the quad on the mass spectrometer.

Introduction

This video will provide an overview of cleaning the quad on the mass spectrometer.

Cleaning the quad is not a routine maintenance procedure but should only be done as a last resort when quad related problems occur.

Cleaning Supplies

The following supplies are recommended for the cleaning procedure. These include acetone, IPA, methanol, a 100 milliliter graduated cylinder, Q-tip, nylon gloves. A clean area should be provided.

Disassembly

First remove the analyzer. Then remove the detector. Always remove the quad from the detector side.

Poke the Q-tips through the source radiator to support the quad. Then remove the 2 mass filter cables and 4 quad contacts.

Remove the 4 screws from the quad contacts using a 2 milli meter ball driver.

Remove the quad.

Note which angle is serial when removing the quad. Initially the serial direction will show 2 O'Clock.

THis slike shows the removed parts.

Cleaning

Inspect the quad for black burn marks and dust particles.

Soak the quad in the 100 milliliter plastic cylinder filled with acetone. Do not use ultrasonic cleaning. If you see black spots, rub them with a Q-tip soaked with Acetone. Do not strongly scrub.

Clean the contacts with IPA.

AFter removing the H E D, clean the metal surfaces with a Q-tip soaked with IPA.

Dry the cleaned parts but do not exceed 80 degrees C. Put the cleaned parts in tin foil or a lint free cloth.

Reassembly

Reassemble from the rear side of radiator. Reinstall the mass filter ceramic or canted coil.

Re-install the 4 quad contacts. After installing, remove the mass filter ceramic and verify the quad contacts hold the quad securely.

Pump Down

Finally, reinstall the detector and High energy dynode. Reconnect the cables. Pump down the system. Wait for 2 hours before running an autotune.
