What version of Mass Hunter are you using?

Funny you should ask, I just upgraded to 7.01. Should I go back to my older software, is this a bug?

Actually, this is related to the software, but no, I would not upgrade.  After Mass Hunter 5.01 some checks were added.   In older software the autotune only checked that the EM gain was 100,000.  In newer software is still checks that but also checks the number of pulse counts. The pulse counts are measured during the gain determination. The error message of ""Insufficient Number of Valid Data Points"" means that
there were not enough valid data points (3) to draw the gain curve.  The system needs 100 and 1000 for the point to be
valid for calculating each measurement during the gain curve;  If the ponts are greater or less than these values, the point is not considered valid.

OK, so what does all that mean, what should I do?

This problem is probably related to the background noise.  First run a dark current test you should get 40 counts (on a 7000B) and 400 ( on a 7000C). If greater then 60 (600) it could be the problem. Also check the air/water.  Check the chemical background of the system as well.  All of these can contribute.

The system was recently vented and pumped down, however air/water is OK. I'll give it an overnight bakeout source 300, quad 200C, hope for the best.
