My Library searches are slow in qualitative analysis of mass hunter compared to chemstation data handling.  Just to do a very simple search it is taking 5 seconds.  In chemstation the search takes less than a second.  For more complex searching it takes even longer.

Qual is a bit slower than chemstation when it comes to chemstation.  However, there may be a setting that might help.  Bring up a spectra in qual.  From "Identify Compounds" on the left double click on search library.  A dialog box will come up.  Click on the "search criteria" tab and then check the box for enable screening.

That really helped. What are the drawback of this?

So according to the qual manual --  "If this check box is marked, then the algorithm uses only the base peak and the second-highest peak in the target spectrum for candidate library spectrum’s selection.  Searching the library is faster when this check box is marked.  If this check box is cleared, the algorithm searches against all the library spectra, but it takes longer to run."

In summary, you are not searching all the peaks in spectrum.
